2. The fall of Babylon precipitated the liberation of Israel from captivity.
3. “Babylon was employed as the rod in God’s hand for the chastising of all the other nations, and now at length that rod shall be thrown into the fire.” Matthew Henry
4. When God raises His hand against a people or a nation, they have no power to resist.
5. Everyone must answer to God for their sin.
6. Jesus, our Redeemer, gives rest to the soul that comes to Him in repentance.
7. Babylon is mentioned six times in Revelation where Babylon represents the evil in the world that God is going to judge and destroy.
8. Application:
· This Old Testament story demonstrates that judgment begins at the house of God, but all evil will be judged by God. See #1 above.
· God sees the oppression of His people and will execute His wrath on evil and wickedness.
· Jesus our Redeemer has set us free from the law of sin and death in order to claim His bride, the church, without spot or wrinkle.
“So that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.” Ephesians 5:27
