Genesis 50:15-26

Lessons Learned

1. Jacob was 130 when he went to Egypt. Genesis 47:9

2. Jacob was 147 when he died, therefore, he lived in Egypt for 17 years. Genesis 47:28

3. Joseph was 17 years old before he was sold as a slave to Egypt. Genesis 37:2

4. Joseph was 30 years old when he entered Pharaoh’s service. Genesis 41:46

5. Joseph was 110 years old when he died. Genesis 50:22, 26

6. Joseph served 80 years as an Egyptian ruler.

7. Joseph was a slave or in prison for 13 years. (30-17)

8. Joseph was in Egypt for 93 years.

9. Joseph was 37 years old when the famine began. (30 + 7 years of plenty.)

10. The family came to Egypt after 2 years of the famine had passed. Genesis 45:6, 11

11. Joseph was 56 years old when Jacob died. (37 + 2 years of famine + 17 years Jacob was in Egypt.)

12. The brothers carry the guilt of their sin against Joseph for 39 years before they come to him for forgiveness. (13 years Joseph is slave/prison + 7 years of plenty + 2 years of famine + 17 years the family was in Egypt before Jacob died.)

13. A guilty conscience exposes you to continuous fear of retribution.

14. You can not enjoy the peace of God until you are at peace with God.

15. Application:

  • When you do not seek forgiveness, you are destined to carry the burden of guilt.

  • God’s promises are everlasting. You can with confidence trust in them.

  • Jesus dealt with unjust treatment by forgiving those who wronged Him (Luke 23:34). What’s holding you back from forgiving people in your life?

And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34

“For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 6:14-15
