Acts 10:34-48
Lessons Learned
by Wayne Gaeddert
1. Cornelius was religious (God-fearing) but still needed the gospel. Good works are not enough to save.
2. God sends messengers to those whose hearts are prepared to receive the good news of the gospel.
3. God will never command you to do something that you need to question.
4. God arranges events in perfect timing.
5. God prepares his servants for the challenges of ministry.
6. Always be ready to tell the good news of the gospel when prompted by the Holy Spirit. Someone’s heart is prepared to listen.
7. The gospel is for everyone. God does not have favorites.
8. Those at the house of Cornelius.
a. Believed (receiving the Holy Spirit is the result of believing) v43-44
b. Baptized v48
c. Discipled v48
9. God knows how to break down barriers.
10. God uses men and women, not angels, to tell the good news of the gospel.
11. A Gentile called for a meeting with an apostle to initiate the final mission of taking the good news of the gospel “to the ends of the earth”. (Acts 1:8)
12. Application:
God prepared Peter for the encounter with Cornelius’ family. God will not call you to what He has not prepared you to do.
We have a responsibility to invite everyone into God’s family—not pick winners and losers.
New believers need to be discipled to get them started on the path of becoming like Christ.
