Lessons Learned

Exodus 25-31

1. The Ten Commandments forbid Israel from making an image to represent God, however, God chose to dwell in the midst of His people via the Tabernacle and to lead His people via the cloud.

2. The Tabernacle was set up in the middle of the camp with three tribes on each side. Numbers 2

3. God wants to dwell with His people.

4. Ever since Israel arrived at Mount Sinai (chapter 19), God has been giving the Israelites direction for how they can worship Him.

5. Believers have the hope of being in His presence for eternity. 1 Thess 4:17

6. God used the skills with which He has blessed men and women to build the Tabernacle.

7. It took approximately six to seven and a half months to build all the parts to assemble the Tabernacle. Ex. 19:1, 24:18, 40:17. The Tabernacle was put up one year after leaving Egypt.

8. “This should always be the ultimate purpose of worship—to make much of God.” Dr. Kevin Shrum

9. God empowers those He calls to leadership by the Holy Spirit.

10. “Leadership is about accomplishing God’s purposes in ways that extend the kingdom of God and that brings God glory.” Dr. Kevin Shrum

11. God resided behind the veil to protect His people from His all-consuming holiness.

12. The instructions for approaching the Tabernacle, offering sacrifices, and moving the Tabernacle taught Israel that worship and serving God was not to be approached casually.

13. The Exodus story points forward to Jesus.

 God dwelt in the midst of Israel    Emmanuel, God with us Matt 1:23

 God taught the Israelites His law  Jesus lived by the law (without sin Heb 4:5)

Moses spoke for God             Jesus' words were the words of his Father John 14:24

14. The Tabernacle had 3 sections.

  • Outer Court 75’ x 150’

  • Inner Court 30’ x 15’

  • Holy of Holies 15’ x 15’

15. The purpose of the Tabernacle was to provide a visible center of worship.

16. The Tabernacle served as Israel’s center of worship for approximately 500 years until the time Solomon built the Temple in Jerusalem.

17. Application:

  • God chooses to support His work on earth by the generosity of His people giving from the resources with which God has blessed them.

  • God first dwelt among His people in the Tabernacle, then in the Temple, then He sent Jesus to live with us to show us the Father, and now He resides in the hearts of believers via the Holy Spirit.

  • God blesses men and women with talents/skills intended to be used for His glory.

God delivers the plans for the Tabernacle to Moses.

Chapter 28 The priests' garments.

Chapter 29 Consecration of the priests.

Chapter 30:1-10 The altar of incense.

:11-16 The census tax.

:17-21 The bronze basin.

:22-33 The anointing oil.

:34-38 The incense recipe.

**Chapter 31:1-11 The skilled workers to put in charge of the construction.**
