Lessons Learned

By Wayne Gaeddert

Isaiah 25:1-10a

1. “Isaiah chapters 25-27 have been called ‘the Book of Songs.’ Here the restored Jewish remnant praises the LORD for its deliverance through the Great Tribulation.” Believers Bible Commentary

2. God’s sovereign plan includes providing a way of salvation for those who believe in Him. Dr. Hearson

3. God judges the evil and the wicked in chapters 13-24 in order that the redeemed (the remnant) will not be restricted from praising the LORD.

4. Exalting God is the response of His people to the destruction of evil and wickedness.

5. God is and will be exalted.

  • Psalm 18:46 The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation.

  • Psalm 21:13 Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength! We will sing and praise your power.

  • Psalm 57:5 & 108:5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!

  • Psalm 97:9 For you, O Lord, are most high over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods.

  • Psalm 99:5 Exalt the Lord our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he!

  • Isaiah 2:11, 2:17 ...and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.

  • Isaiah 5:16 But the Lord of hosts is exalted in justice, ...

  • Isaiah 12:4 …proclaim that his name is exalted.

6. Exalting yourself is foolish.

  • Proverbs 30:32 If you have been foolish, exalting yourself, or if you have been devising evil, put your hand on your mouth.

  • Isaiah 45:2 I will go before you and level the exalted places, I will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut through the bars of iron.

7. God’s justice can not be restrained or held back.

8. Note how worship of God is personal in verse 1.

  • You are my God.

  • I will exalt you.

  • I will praise your name.

9. The worship in verse 1 is prompted by the wonderful things that God has done in destroying the enemies outlined in chapters 13-24. God has blessed us more than we can understand by sending Jesus who died for our sins and conquered death. We owe Him our praise.

10. God’s plan was established long ago and is unfolding as he designed it to be.

11. God’s acts of judgment are designed to cause the nations to honor Him.

12. Strong walled cities can not save you. God’s power can destroy all things that men trust in for security.

13. Many commentators have linked the feast in verse 6 with the marriage feast of the Lamb in Revelation 19:6-9. Dr. Hearson

14. The Old Testament sacrifices offered the best meat of the sacrifice to God. Here at this feast, God has prepared the best meat and wine for the redeemed.

15. God will one day relieve all human sorrow:

  • No more death.

  • Tears wiped away.

  • No more oppression.

16. Death is the greatest enemy, and its defeat will be the ultimate testimony of God’s power. Dr. Hearson

17. God’s redemption is available for all people in all nations.

18. In verse 9 note the plural pronouns:

  • They will say.

  • This is our God.

  • We trust in him.

  • He saved us.

  • We trusted him.

  • Let us rejoice.

This represents the corporate worship of all those from the nations who believed and trusted in Jesus.

19. Verse 10 is a picture of God dwelling with his people.
