Lessons Learned
Proverbs 3:1-12
1. Fear of the Lord—includes awe, reverence, trust, submission, and obedience.

2. Solomon is giving instructions to his son. Every father needs to follow Solomon’s
example of instructing and training their children.
3. “Peace means you are free from threat or need and are fulfilled, content, prosperous, and at peace in a way that only God can grant.” NKJV study notes
4. Peace in your life is a by-product of being obedient to God.
5. You will gain favor with God and man when you demonstrate (love and faithfulness NIV) or (mercy and truth KJV).
6. Love and faithfulness are attributes of God that we need to integrate into our character.
7. “Keep your heart with all diligence,
For out of it spring the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23
8. Trust in the LORD, not in your own resourcefulness and resources.
9. Acknowledge the LORD in all areas of your life, He will lead you on the path to eternal life.
10. Leaning on the LORD is implied in verse 5. Leaning is a word picture of being
supported and held up by the LORD.
11. Honoring the LORD with your wealth is a tangible way to demonstrate your ‘fear of
the LORD’.
12. Your ‘wealth’ in verse 9 represents your stored resources that are ready for use.

13. The ‘first fruits’ in verse 9 were the earliest and best of the crop. Deuteronomy 18:4

14. You can not out-give God.
15. You demonstrate your ‘fear of the LORD’ when you turn away from evil.
16. Doing things God’s way promotes a healthy life.
17. Everything God allows in your life has a purpose, don’t allow yourself to despise what God allows.
18. Discipline is proof of love, not anger.
19. An athlete accepts the discipline of the coach to perfect their performance. Christians should accept God’s discipline in order to become like Christ.
20. Discipline involves instruction, warning, encouragement, advice, correction, and
sometimes punishment.
21. A gardener prunes the grape vine but not the thistles.
22. “And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons:
‘My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
For whom the LORD loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.’” Hebrews 12:5-6
23. The writer of Hebrews quoting from Proverbs validates the inspiration Proverbs.
