Proverbs 5:1-18
1. Sexual sin begins in the mind. Matthew 5:28 Argile Smith
2. Sexual temptation is powerful. 1 Corinthians 6:18 Argile Smith
3. Sexual sin is destructive. Proverbs 6:32 Argile Smith
4. Forgiveness is available John 8:10-11, 1 Corinthians 6:11, 1 John 1:9 Argile Smith
5. God intends for sexual expression to be enjoyed within the covenant relationship of
marriage.
6. God created sex. He created them male and female. Genesis 1:27
7. God made Adam a ‘helper fit for him’ so that he would not be alone. Genesis 2:18
8. “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24 (NASB)
9. God blessed Adam and Eve and told them to multiply and fill the earth… Genesis 1:28
10. Adultery is breaking the marriage covenant by having sexual relations with someone who is not your spouse.
11. Fornication is having sexual relations before marriage.
12. God expects His people to display His wisdom to the world through sexual purity.
13. In the ten commandments, adultery is along side murder. Robert Weathers
• Murder- a violation of life.
• Adultery- a violation of the most sacred human relationship, marriage.
15. Solomon’s wisdom about the topic of sexual misconduct came from:
• His father, King David, committed adultery with Bathsheba. 2 Sam. 11:2-4
Consequences: Uriah her husband was murdered by David. 2 Sam. 12:9
The child conceived died. 2 Samuel 12:15,18
The sword would not depart from David’s house. 2 Samuel 2:10
• Solomon’s half brother Amnon raped his half-sister Tamar. 2 Samuel 13:14
Consequences: Amnon hatred for Tamar after he raped her was greater than the
love he originally had for her. 2 Samuel 13:15
Absalom hated his half-brother Amnon. 2 Samuel 13:22
Absalom, Tamar’s brother, killed Amnon 2 Samuel 13:28-29.
• Absalom publicly raped ten of king David’s concubines as he tried to steal the
authority of being king. 2 Samuel 16:22
Consequences: Absalom was killed in the civil war with his father King David. 2 Samuel 18:14-15
• God Gave Solomon wisdom. 1 Kings 3:12
14. More than five percent of the entire book of Proverbs is devoted to sexual misbehavior.

16. Sinful choices in the area of sexual conduct always create spiritual problems.
