Proverbs 4:10-27

2. Solomon provided instruction (I have taught you v11) and also an example to
follow (I have led you v11).
3. Teachers that do not practice what they teach are not effective.
4. Solomon describes your journey in life as sometimes slow paced (walk) and
sometimes fast (run), but not as stationary (standing still).
5. God can guide someone on the move but not someone who is not moving at all.
6. Verse 13 gives us three word pictures of how to receive godly instruction:
• ‘Hold on’—Don’t treat it casually.
• ‘Do not let go’—Don’t trade it for another truth.
• ‘Guard it well’—Don’t let the enemy talk you out of it.
7. Verses 14-17 are warnings about being partners with the wicked. You are not prohibited from being a witness of the Truth in their life.
• The path of the wicked—leads to destruction.
• Walking in the way of evil doers means you have become partners with them.
• Turn away from offers evil doers.
8. The daily routine of evil doers involves doing wrong things and being oppressive to
others.
9. ‘Eating the bread of wickedness’ refers to their hunger and willingness to be involved in evil activities.
10. ‘Drinking the wine of violence’ refers to their thirst for evil activity.
11. Righteousness Vs Wickedness
Like the brightness of full A deep darkness that prevents you

12. The words of a father’s instruction come from a person that has your best interests in his heart.

14. Guard your heart:
• Be careful what you trust it to.
• Be careful who you trust it to
• Be careful what you put in it. The overflow of your heart is what comes out of the

15. The honesty of your words reflects the purity of your heart. Dr. Argile Smith
16. Your speech is a window into your heart.
17. ‘Fix your gaze directly before you’ means that you do not allow distractions to draw
you off the path God has plotted out for you.
18. You must choose the path you take, no one else can choose for you.
19. Choosing the path of righteousness will provide light for avoiding obstacles and a solid foundation upon which to walk.
