Luke 6:20-38

1. “Love is to feel toward enemies what others feel toward friends.” F.B. Meyer
2. Christian love is a verb that motivates the Christian to give generously.
3. Christian love does not seek to get ‘even’ with those who strike out against them.
4. Christian love is a demonstration to the world how God loves sinners.
5. Mercy- “Compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender or to one subject to one's power.” Merriam-Webster dictionary online
6. Judging- Being critical or finding fault.
7. Condemning- Pronouncing someone guilty.
8. The Golden Rule- Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
9. The Silver Rule is a weakened Golden Rule. It states, “Do not do unto others as you would not have them do unto you.” Simply stated, do not harm others.
10. The actions of a believer should be different than those of an unbeliever.
11. “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35 (ESV)
12. “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8 (ESV)
13. “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” 1 John 4:11 (ESV)
14. “And now I ask you, dear lady—not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning—that we love one another.” 2 John 1:5 (ESV)
15. “God cannot forgive us when we are unwilling to forgive one another. He doesn’t act that way, and cannot walk in fellowship with those who do.”

16. In God’s economy, giving does not diminish your resources.
17. Application:
Eternal blessing is found when you seek the approval of God instead of the blessing of man.
Love your enemies.
Don’t be judging of others.
Don’t condemn others.
Give generously.
(Loving/lending/doing good) without expecting a return favor distinguishes the Christian from the sinner.
God want you to display His character and values to all people with whom you come in contact. (Jesus looked at the crowds with compassion. Matthew 9:36, 14:14, 15:32, Mark 6:34)
