 Lessons Learned

Philippians 4:10-20

by Wayne Gaeddert

1. “Contentment is an inner sense of rest or peace that comes from being right with God and knowing that He is in control of all that happens to us.” Pastor Steven Cole

2. “Paul had learned that Jesus was all he had and that Jesus was all he needed.” A.T. Robertson

3. The appropriate response to receiving a gift that meets your need is to rejoice in the Lord greatly.

4. Keep in mind there is a difference between ‘needs’ and ‘wants.’

5. ‘Wants’ tend to be focused on selfish things.

6. As you consider your needs, do not neglect your spiritual needs.

7. Supporting God’s work requires:

  • Available resources.

  • A heart to help.

  • A channel to get the resources to the area of need.

8. The context of verse 13, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me,” is that Paul had learned the secret of being content in all circumstances.

9. Application:

·        Learn to be content with what God has provided for you.

·        Giving to support kingdom work is evidence of your love for God and His servants.

·        Show your support and love for your pastor by giving a gift during pastor appreciation month.
