Lessons Learned
Colossians 3:1-17

1. We need to practice the presence of God.
2. Our salvation is secure because God is doing the holding.
3. “Believers should not try to co-exist with sin.” John Piper
4. When something is ‘put to death,’ it has no power over you.
5. “and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.” 1 Thessalonians 1:10
6. The ground is level at the foot of the cross. No one comes with privileges, but simply as sinners in search of a savior.
7. Sexual immorality - sexual relationship outside of marriage.
8. Impurity - that which makes you unfit to come before God.
9. Passion - being driven by inward emotion aroused by some external object. It does not rest until it is satisfied.
10. Evil desires - wickedness that comes from within a person.
11. Covetousness or Greed - is a desire to have more irrespective of one’s need. It describes an insatiable selfishness.
12. Idolatry - Giving of the love and regard to worldly wealth which is due to God only. Matthew Henry
13. Anger - resentful bitterness.
14. Wrath - a state of intense displeasure or rage.
15. Malice - the desire to cause pain, injury, or distress to another.
16. Slander - tearing down someone by speech that misrepresents them.
17. Obscene talk - a foul mouth.
18. Forgiveness is required, it is the mark of a believer.
19. What is in your heart will come out of your mouth.
20. Let Jesus be the reason for all you do and say.
21. Application:
· Believers are to focus on Christ and the life He provides them.
· Because of their salvation, believers are to stop living a life characterized by sin.
· Believers are changed as they dwell on and yield to the truths of the Bible.
