1. Parallel passages:

  • Matthew 26:26-56

  • Mark 14:32-52

2. Events between Passover/Last Supper and Jesus being arrested. (From harmony of the gospels.)

  • Jesus predicts Peter’s denial. John 13:31-38 also in Luke 22:31-38

  • … I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me… John 14:1-14

  • Promise of the Holy Spirit to come. John 14:15-31

  • I am the true vine. John 15:1-17

  • The world will hate you because it hates me. John 15:18-27

  • The role of the Holy Spirit when He comes. John 16:5-15

  • Your sorrow will turn to joy. John 16:16-24

3. It is never wrong to express your true feelings to God.

4. The gospel of John tells us it was Peter who cut off the servant’s ear. John 18:10

5. It was the custom of Jesus to go to the Mount of Olives. Luke 22:39

10. It was in the garden of Eden where the first Adam gave in to temptation and sin entered the world and its penalty, death, spread to all mankind.

11. It was in the garden of Gethsemane where the second Adam (Jesus) resisted temptation allowing Him to defeat sin, which had entered the world, bringing life and salvation to all who believe.

12. It is ironic that they came to the garden with lanterns and torches to find the light of the world. 

13. Spiritual Preparation before testing is more important than calling for rescue during the test.

14. Application:

·        Preparation for spiritual battles is done through prayer and the Word of God.

·        You can tell God exactly how you feel.

·        Submitting to God’s will and plan is the path of blessing.

·        Jesus is our example of how to love your enemies.
