Lessons Learned
Luke 24:36-49
by Wayne Gaeddert
1. Appearances of Jesus between the resurrection and the ascension:
to Mary Magdalene (John 20:11-18),
to other women who had been at the tomb (Matt. 28:8-10),
to two disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-32),
to Peter (Luke 24:34),
to ten of the eleven remaining apostles, Thomas being absent (Luke 24:36-43; John 20:19-25),
to all eleven apostles, with Thomas present (John 20:26-31),
to seven of the apostles on the shore of the Sea of Galilee (John 21:1-25),
to more than 500 disciples, probably on a mountain in Galilee (1 Cor. 15:7),
to James (1 Cor. 15:7),
and to the apostles when He ascended to heaven (Acts 1:3-11).
In addition, the risen Christ later appeared to Saul of Tarsus on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:1-9).

4. “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.” Philippians 3:20-21
5. Three reasons it was necessary for Jesus’ bodily resurrection. John MacArthur

To demonstrate the purpose of God in humanity is to give glory to God.
The physical resurrection of Jesus offers visible proof that God was satisfied with the sacrifice of Jesus.
6. Paul describes the resurrection in 1 Corinthians 15.
verse 52 “… we shall be changed.”
7. Witness- Someone who truthfully reports what they have seen and heard.

9. Scripture is our source to know God. Do not depend on feelings or emotions.
10. “Jesus did not call us to be champion debaters or brilliant orators or astute philosophers, He called us to be witnesses.” Steven Cole
11. Application:
The resurrection of Jesus is part of the gospel story. 1 Corinthians 15:1-3
The resurrection of Jesus was witnessed by many people—leaving no room for doubt as to whether it was real or their imagination.
Scripture teaches that when He appears, we shall be like Him. 1 John 3:2 (see #3)
Jesus was patient with the disciples as they slowly grasped the reality of the resurrection. Be patient with others as they “grow in grace and knowledge.” 2 Peter 3:18
The mission given to the disciples was worldwide (all nations).
