2. In Job 42:2-6 Job:

  • Is submissive to the plan of God.

  • Confesses his error of bitterness to God.

  • Wants to learn from God.

  • Saw himself in relation to a holy God.

3. We can not manipulate God by doing good works so that God is now obligated to bless us.

4. “Job shifted his focus from demanding answers (that the Lord never provided) to gaining peace by submitting to the Lord, even though he did not have all the answers to his questions.” Dr. Matt Capp

5. The book of Job refutes the ideas that:

  • All suffering is due to sin.

  • Good works result in blessing.

6. Job’s heart had become bitter as he felt his suffering was unjustified.

7. Do you want to debate with God or listen to His instruction?

8. “Jesus is the only truly innocent sufferer.” Dr. Matt Capps 

9. Application:

  • God can use a teachable heart.

  • Learn to be at peace with your circumstances.

  • “But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Matthew 5:44 (ESV)

  • Verses that give hope to believers who are suffering:

“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
    nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him”  1 Corinthians 2:9 (ESV)

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” Romans 8:18 (ESV)

“Weeping may tarry for the night,
    but joy comes with the morning.” Psalm 30:5b
