Gospel of John 1:40-51

1. Rabbi- The title given to a teacher.
2. Cephas- Aramaic for ‘stone’ or ‘rock’.
3. Peter- Greek name meaning a ‘stone’ or ‘rock’.
4. Jesus knows everything about us (all the rough edges) but still calls us to be His disciple because He knows our potential.
5. Jesus saw Simon as a diamond in the rough.
6. Bethsaida means ‘house of fish’ or ‘house of fisherman’.
7. “I will not believe that you have tasted of the honey of the gospel, if you can eat it all yourself.” Charles Spurgeon
8. Commentators believe that Nathaniel is the disciple in other places called Bartholomew. Matthew 10:3, Mark 3:18, Luke 6:14
9. Jesus is the ladder that leads to heaven. There is no other way.
10. Simon (Peter), James, and John (sons of thunder Mark 3:17) had names given to them by Jesus. This small group of men was the inner circle of Jesus’ disciples.
11. Application:
Coming to Jesus changes the trajectory of your life.
Telling people about Jesus should flow out of what is in the heart.
Everybody’s story of coming to Jesus is unique.
