2. Mount Horeb and Mount Sinai are considered to be the same place. (Ex. 19:18 refers to Mount Sinai. Deut. 5:2 calls it Mount Horeb.)
3. Scholars have various opinions as to the location of Mount Horeb (Sinai).
4. The journey from Jezreel to Beersheba was approximately 90 miles.
5. The journey from Beersheba to Mount Horeb was another 250 miles.
6. Thunder, lightning, a trumpet blast, smoke, fire, and an earthquake demonstrated God’s power on Mount Sinai when God gave the ten commandments to Israel. Ex 19:16-19
7. God can use pagans to accomplish His will. (In this case, Hazael king of Syria.)
8. God has a remnant that remains true to Him.
9. God raises up leaders to fill the void of those who have died.
10. Ministry with a partner provides strength and encouragement when one of the partners becomes depressed.
11. God speaks to those who are ready to listen.
12. Application:
Spiritual decline progresses rapidly. (Less than 100 years since the kingdom divided. See the chart in #1.)
Hearing the voice of the Lord requires you to slow down and quiet your heart so you can listen to the gentle whisper of the Lord.
God’s work goes on despite the obstacles that appear to be in the way.
God’s power is unmatched, but His voice is gentle (not scary).
