Lessons Learned 15:1-17

1. All of John chapters 13 – 17 takes place the night before Jesus is crucified on the cross.
2. The symbol for Israel is a vine.
3. Bearing fruit is a function of being connected to the vine.
4. The Word of God cleanses you.
5. Bearing fruit that remains is proof that you are a follower of Jesus.
6. The purpose of pruning is to increase the fruit produced.
7. The Word of God is the knife that cuts away unnecessary growth that results in more fruit. Dr. John MacArthur
8. No fruit is produced without being connected to the vine.
9. The chain of love:
The Father loves the Son.
The Son loves the disciples.
The Disciples abide in the love of Jesus.
The disciples are to love one another.
10. If you find it to be a burden to obey His commandments—check your relationship.
11. “Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.” Ephesians 1:4 (ESV)
12. Application:
True believers are being shaped by God in order to be fruitful for the kingdom of God.
True believers find joy by being obedient and abiding in Christ.
Loving one another is not optional. Jesus repeated this command on His final night with the disciples. John 13:34, 15:12, 15:17
