Lessons Learned

Gospel of John 14:15-29

1. All of John chapters 13 – 17 takes place the night before Jesus is crucified on the cross.

2. The litmus test that shows whether you love Jesus is your obedience to His commands.

3. The Holy Spirit is God’s divine presence within the heart of believers.

4. Jesus reveals himself to those who love Him.

5. “And when he (Holy Spirit) comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:” John 16:8

6. “...Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.” Romans 8:9b

7. Our life is dependent upon the life of Christ.

8. Peace is fruit from the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 4:30

9. Jesus is the Prince of Peace spoken of in Isaiah 9:6.

10. The Holy Spirit is the teacher that opens the truth of God’s word to your heart.

11. The Holy Spirit is a permanent resident in the heart of true believers, but he is grieved when a believer is involved with the works of the flesh. See Ephesians 4:30-31.

12. We can be at peace in all circumstances because we can trust what Jesus has promised to those who love Him.

13. Showing love for Jesus by keeping His commandments is a theme of this passage.  See verses 15,21,23.

14. Application:

  • Keeping the commandments of Jesus is evidence that you truly love Him.

  • The Holy Spirit is a gift to believers that reveals the heart of God to them.

  • You are at peace with God when you are forgiven of your sins by the blood of Jesus.

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1

  • You have the peace of God when you trust completely in Him.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
