by Wayne Gaeddert
1. The Latin word for Golgotha is Calvary.
2. The Aramaic word for Golgotha translates to ‘Place of a Skull.’
3. Crucify—The act of nailing or binding someone to a cross so that they will die.

5. Languages of the sign:

· Latin—The official language of the Roman occupying force.
· Greek—The international language of the Roman Empire.
6. “Crucifixion was the most painful and degrading punishment in the ancient world. In some ways, it had been around for centuries, but the Romans ‘perfected’ it as a tool of torture, humiliation, and execution.” Carole Segars Waina
7. The seven last words of Jesus from the cross.
(1) Luke 23:34 “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
(2) Luke 23:43 “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
(3) John 19:26-27 “Woman, behold, your son!”… “Behold, your mother!”

13. “Godless evil men are the means by which scripture is fulfilled.” John MacArthur
14. Some commentators believe Jesus had two beatings. John 19:1 indicates Jesus was flogged with a less serious beating than the scourging mentioned in Matthew 27:26 and Mark 15:15.
15. “Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:4-6
16. Application:
Humanity’s redemption comes only through faith in the completed work of Jesus.
Jesus paid the full price for our redemption. There is nothing you or I can add to what Jesus has finished.
