Jeremiah 7:1-15

1. Chapter 7 has been called, ‘The Temple Sermon.’
2. Chapter 7 addresses worship and the temple in Jerusalem.
3. It is believed that Jeremiah was delivering this message on one of the three occasions in a year when all men were required to go to the temple in Jerusalem.
4. The ten commandments:
· 1. No other gods besides Me.
· 2. No carved images.
· 3. Do not take God’s name in vain.
· 4. The Sabbath day is holy.
· 5. Honor Mom & Dad.
· 6. Do not murder.
· 7. Do not commit adultery.
· 8. Do not steal.
· 9. Do not bear false witness.
· 10. Do not covet anything that is your neighbor’s.
5. Chapter 26 tells us how the people responded to Jeremiah’s sermon at the temple. Jeremiah 26:10-11
6. The people thought of the temple as a good luck charm that God would not abandon or allow to be destroyed.
7. Shiloh was 18 miles north of Jerusalem. This is where Joshua set up the Tabernacle with the ark of the covenant after the conquest of Canaan (Joshua 18:1). Shiloh was destroyed by the Philistines and they took the ark of the covenant (1 Samuel 4:1-11).
8. Worship is about the condition of the heart rather than keeping a checklist of do’s and do not’s.
9. God has given us: the scriptures, faith, pastors, and teachers. God has given you the authority to decide whether you will believe or reject the truth revealed in His Word.
10. ‘Ephriam’ is a way of referring to the northern kingdom.
11. “What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?” Romans 6:1-2 (ESV)
12. “And he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.” 2 Corinthians 5:15 (ESV)
13. Application:
Ignoring and remaining unrepentant of sin that is spelled out in God’s Word as sin has consequences.
True worship is authenticated by godly living.
God can remove from your life anything that is between you and your relationship with God.
