Acts 4:36-5:11
Lessons Learned
by Wayne Gaeddert
1. The Old Testament precedent for sharing with the needy is in Deuteronomy 15:7-8.
2. Everyone needs an 'encourager' in their life.
3. God uses our generosity to meet the needs of others.
4. Generosity towards God's work comes from those whose heart is filled with the Holy Spirit
5. Acts 20:35 … remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'
6. 2 Cor 9:7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
7. God's work can not be accomplished by those who allow Satan to fill their heart.
8. Prov. 4:23 reminds us, “Above all else, guard your heart,
for it is the wellspring of life.”
9. Pretending to be devoted to God does not honor God.
10. Everyone needs to evaluate themselves, 'Am I being deceptive by pretending to be more devoted to God in my public life than I am in my private life?'
11. Numbers 32:23 “… and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.”
12. Trying to deceive man in reality is lying to God.
13. God never lies (Titus 1:2) VS Satan is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44).
14. In Joshua 7 Achan had lied and stolen things devoted to God.
15. Application:
God is honored when believers give to meet the needs of fellow believers.
Trying to serve God with selfish motives (serving to receive glory from men, pretending to be spiritual, etc.) will disappoint you and wear you out.
Agreeing with a deceptive plan will cost you.
