Lessons Learned

By Wayne Gaeddert

Isaiah 49:1-13

1. Summary of Isaiah 49:1-13:                       Moody Bible Commentary

  • Verses 1-4 Depict the Servant’s call to go to Israel.

  • Verses 5-7 Revel the expansion of the Servant’s mission to the Gentile nations.

  • Verses 8-13 Indicate the Servant’s ultimate deliverance of Israel.

2. This lesson presents a Servant of God, that we know to be Jesus, that provides salvation to Israel and the world by delivering them from the clutches of sin through the sacrifice of the Suffering Servant (Isaiah 53) that we will study next week.

3. Jesus will return at the time appointed by God, right on time.

4. God’s plan to redeem mankind is extended to every corner of the earth.

5. God’s Word is a sharp two-edged sword.

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

6. God has called you and formed you from the womb to be his servant in a sin sick world.

7. Don’t listen to the judgment of men when God has called you to a task.

“Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.” Romans 14:4

8. God will reward your obedience to His call on your life.

9. Cry out to God in the dark time, He will never leave you or forsake you.

10. “To be chosen of God does not mean glory along the way, but it does mean glory at the end of the way.” Dr. John Oswalt

11. The only way for you to accomplish God’s mission for your life is to depend on His strength.

12. Application:

  • God has not forgotten His promise to Israel. Therefore, we can also depend on all the promises in the Bible.

  • There is no boundary over which the gospel can not cross over.

  • The compassion of the LORD is a fountain that is the source of comfort to His people.
