Lessons Learned
Ecclesiastes 7:11-22
by Wayne Gaeddert
1. Wisdom is your Friend.
A. Wisdom enhances your life. Verses 11-14
B. Wisdom will sustain you in an unpredictable life. Verses 15-18
C. Wisdom gives you a realistic outlook on life. Verses 19-22
2. Money can provide for your physical needs but is worthless to gain the salvation of your soul.
3. Wisdom, the fear of God, is submitting to God and learning to depend on Him daily.
4. Some things on life’s highway are difficult to understand, you can choose to:
Deny them.
Conquer them.
Embrace them by depending on Him to carry you through.
5. God calls us to have faith, not understanding.
6. The righteous in verse 15 may mean:
Being right or just as in doing the right thing.
Being in right standing before God.
Which leads to different interpretations.
7. Length of life is not linked to spirituality. Dr. Matt Capp
8. The righteous are not immune to the consequences of living in a fallen world. This is not the world God intended it to be. Dr. Bob Utley
9. “Since his (man) days are determined,
and the number of his months is with you,
and you have appointed his limits that he cannot pass.” Job 14:5
10. All people are sinners, therefore, be aware that you will not always be treated like a saint.
11. “The world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to Him. By God’s help, I aim to be that man.” Dwight L Moody
12. Application:
Wisdom is an asset to be treasured during this lifetime that also pays eternal benefits.
The most important lesson to learn in this life ‘under the sun’ is to fear God. Then it does not matter how long you live, your eternity will be in God’s presence.
None of us knows what lies ahead, therefore, trust God that His plan is for your best and His glory.
We must learn to deal with people as they are—as sinners like us.
