Lessons Learned
Daniel 9:1-19

1.Daniel was deported in 605 BC. The Medes and Persians defeated Babylon in 537 BC. Therefore it had been 68 years since Babylonian exile began.
2. ‘Seventy years’ prophecies of Jeremiah are in Jeremiah 25:11-14, 29:10.
3. Moses listed the blessing for God’s people when they are obedient to Him. Deuteronomy 28:1-14
4. Moses listed the curses for God’s people when they are disobedient to Him. Deuteronomy 28:15-68
5. God’s promises of negative consequences are just as sure as those promising blessing.
6. Leviticus 26:40-42 promises that God will remember his covenant, ‘… if they confess their wrong doing…’
7. “This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.” 1 John 5:14-15
8. “Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. A prayer of a righteous person, when it is brought about, can accomplish much.” James 5:16
9. It is a sad thing when people who know better fail to recognize their need to seek the favor of God.
10. “Those who have left the deepest impression on this sin-cursed earth have been men and women of prayer.” D.L. Moody
11. “If you want your prayers to change things, let them first change you—your habits, your schedule, your priorities, your daily routine, and you inward focus.” Ray Pritchard
12. Sackcloth and ashes were an outward sign of Daniels broken heart.
13. Application:
· Studying God’s Word reveals truths about God’s mercy, righteousness, promises, and His awesome nature.
· God’s Word penetrating our hearts should cause us to turn our face to God in prayer.
· Our prayers should be God centered and structured to give Him glory.
· Prayer changes things. (See James 5:16 #8 above.)
