 Lessons Learned 1 Thessalonians 5:12-24

by Wayne Gaeddert

1. Patience is not natural but rather is a byproduct of the Holy Spirit’s work in your life. See Galatians 5:22

2. Being patient is a great way to witness to unbelievers.

3. “Do not say, ‘I will repay evil’;
    wait for the Lord, and he will deliver you.” Proverbs 20:22

4. “Do not say, ’I will do to him as he has done to me;
    I will pay the man back for what he has done.’” Proverbs 24:29

5. “For we know him who said, ‘Vengeance is mine; I will repay.’ And again, ‘The Lord will judge his people.’” Hebrews 10:30

6. Spend your time and resources figuring out what good you can do for others.

7. “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.” Hebrews 10:24

8. Pray continually—talk to God about everything.

9. “Since prayer is detrimental to the evil one's purposes, Satan and his minions do their utmost to interfere when we pray especially opposing us when we try to take time for prayer because the enemy knows better than most Christian's the power of persistent prayer!”  A. W. Tozer

10. Susannah Wesley, mother of the great eighteenth-century evangelist and Christian leader John Wesley, had nineteen children. When she wanted to pray and meditate, she would sit in her rocking chair and cover her face with her apron. She trained her children to respect these times of quietness and fellowship with God.

11. Pray anytime anywhere.

12. “We can’t always give thanks FOR everything, but we can always give thanks IN everything.” Ruth Bell Graham

13. The Spirit is quenched whenever His ministry is stifled in an individual or in a church. Charles Ryrie

14. You quench the Spirit by replacing the will of the Holy Spirit with the will of the flesh.

15. Application:

·        Give Spiritual leaders your respect, honor, love, and support.

·        Provide the proper support for believers that are struggling.

·        Maintain your relationship with the Lord by; rejoicing, prayer, thanksgiving, submission to the Spirit, and rejection of evil.
