Introduction to 2 Thessalonians

1. Paul is the author. See 2 Thessalonians 3:17.
2. The 2nd coming of Jesus dominates 2 Thessalonians.
3. Paul addresses three issues in 2 Thessalonians.
· The idea that the day of the Lord had come.
· To strengthen the Thessalonians in the face of persecution.
· The problem of church members refusing to work for a living.
4. 2 Thessalonians was written soon (within a year) after 1 Thessalonians.

1. Faith gets stronger as you are tested by trials that exercise your faith.
2. Your faith should never stop growing. See verse 3.
3. God’s justice requires that the guilty be punished.
4. Eternal punishment awaits those who reject the forgiveness found in Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection.
5. Acting in faith toward God never goes unnoticed by God.
6. If you are looking for glory that does not fade away—go to Jesus.
7. “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,” 2 Corinthians 4:17

The return of Jesus will bring your just reward of eternal destruction or to be glorified with Jesus.
Live your life in such a way that people see Jesus in you (your life honors God).
