Lessons Learned

1 Kings 8:46-60

by Wayne Gaeddert

1. 2 Chronicles 6:12–7:3 is a parallel passage for today’s text.

2. All have sinned before a Holy God.

3. God keeps His promises.

4. Grace is getting what you do not deserve—eternal life.

5. Mercy is not getting what you do deserve—death.

6. Rehearsing what God has done in the past gives you hope for the future.

7. Forgiveness comes as a result of admitting to God that you are a sinner.

8. When God forgives—He is choosing not to hold your sin against you. Dr. Bryan Beyer

9. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

10. The goal for the Christian is to display Jesus to the world by their life and their words.

11. “All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.” John 6:37

12. “Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.” Revelation 3:19

13. Application:

·        God calls us today to be channels of His salvation, not to keep His salvation to ourselves. (All the people of the earth need to know who Jesus is.)

·        God hears the repentant cry of those seeking forgiveness. See John 6:37

·        God will discipline those He loves. Those He loves should respond to His discipline be repenting and seeking God’s forgiveness.
