Lessons Learned
2 Kings 7:1-15
by Wayne Gaeddert
1. First and Second Kings describe the progression of Israel and Judah abandoning their relationship with God.
2. Second Kings 6:24-30 describes the cause and severity of the famine in Samaria.
3. During the time of Elijah, there was no rain. During the time of Elisha, there was a famine. In each case, the kings blamed God’s prophet for their problems.
4. The events of Elisha recorded in 2nd Kings are not in chronological order, so we can not positively identify the unnamed king.
5. Unbelief prevents you from enjoying the blessing God wants to give.
6. The lepers became the first witnesses to the mercy of God on Samaria.
7. The lepers bear the news that should have come from the king.
8. God’s mercy and grace reach out to the lost and dying, but they must respond in belief.
9. The king did not seek the LORD’s help but received it as God’s grace and mercy to Samaria.
10. Everything we have is a gift from God.
11. “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” James 1:17
12. The king did not believe the prophecy of Elisha or the witness of the lepers but he did concede to check into the report of the lepers.
13. Seah = 7 Quarts
Shekel = 2/5 ounce
Kab = Quart
14. Application:
· God wants us to be channels of His grace, not reservoirs of his grace. Unknown
· Being ‘lucky’ does not give God credit for the blessings He gives to you.
· God provides in unexpected ways.
· God’s word will be fulfilled exactly as He has given it.
