2 Kings 22:8-20

1. Josiah’s reign was the last era of reform in the kingdom of Judah.
2. Scripture makes mention of three Passovers during the kingdom years:
Solomon 2 Chronicles 8
Hezekiah 2 Chronicles 30
Josiah 2 Chronicles 35
3. Josiah was the greatest of the kings of Judah. Unknown
4. Josiah walked in all the way of David his Father, and did not turn aside to the right or to the left. (2 Kings 22:2 compare with Hezekiah 2 Kings 18:3)
6. The waning power of the Assyrians allowed Josiah to add much of the land of Israel to his kingdom. ESV study note
7. Josiah’s reign is also outlined in 2 Chronicles 34-35.
8. 2 Kings 21:10-15 records the prophetic destruction of Jerusalem because of their evil ways.
9. As you are obedient to the Lord, He empowers you to do greater things.
10. Josiah’s name means ‘YHWH supports.’
11. The Mosaic Covenant was a conditional covenant: (See Deuteronomy 28)
If they obeyed the conditions of the covenant, then they would be blessed.
If they disobeyed the condition of the covenant, then they would experience judgment.

14. Huldah was probably Jeremiah’s aunt. (Compare 2 Kings 22:14 with Jeremiah 32:7. Both are related to Shallum.)
15. Jeremiah’s prophecies began in the 13th year of Josiah. Jeremiah 1:2
16. “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
17. Application:
God’s Word impacts the heart, soul, and spirit of man. See Heb 4:12
God’s promises of grace and mercy to the repentant and judgment for those who reject God’s grace and mercy will all be fulfilled.
God provides a means to escape judgment, but we must obey and follow his commands.
Leadership can bring about revival, but each individual must be intentional with their relationship with God for it to stick.
