Jeremiah 23:1-12

Lessons Learned

by Wayne Gaeddert

1. Jeremiah is speaking about Israel in this text, not the church.

2. Woe is a lament for the dead used at a funeral.

3. In John 10:11, 14 Jesus said, ‘I am the good shepherd.’

4. The New Testament declares that Jesus was born, ‘king of the Jews’ in Matthew 2:2.

5. The rule of the family tree of David was cut off when the Babylonians defeated Judah and took them into exile. However, Jeremiah prophesied that the tree of David would rule again, and a righteous Branch would arise to reign as king.

6. When Jesus comes again, He will rule and reign as ‘King of kings and Lord of lords.’  Revelation 17:14, 19:16

7. The invention of the printing press in 1450 changed the world by providing copies of scripture to common people.

8. Zedekiah means ‘the LORD is righteous.’

9. Zedekiah was ruling in Judah because Nebuchadnezzar replaced Jehoiachin who had rebelled against him with Zedekiah.

10. Application:

·        You are accountable to God for those you influence and lead.

·        God provides righteousness for us through Jesus Christ.

·        Be careful that you are not led astray.

“Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons.” 1 Timothy 4:1

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Colossians 3:16
