Lessons Learned

by Wayne Gaeddert

1. Bible scholars call Jeremiah 30-33 ‘The Book of Consolation.’

2. Jeremiah 31:31-34 is quoted in Hebrews 8:8-12.

3. Jeremiah 31:33-34 is also quoted in Hebrews 10:16-17.

4. The new covenant spoken of by Jeremiah refers to the blood of Jesus which cleanses us from our sins.

“And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.” Luke 22:20 ESV

5. Everyone is responsible to God for their own actions.

6. In the New Covenant, God is the one responsible, we can add nothing to what Jesus did to provide salvation to those who believe.

7. Application:

·        Hebrews 10:14-16 applies the new covenant with the New Testament church.

·        God is the only one who can give hope when you are in a hopeless situation.

·        God will give a new heart to those who turn to Him in repentance.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:17-19 ESV
