Genesis 2:4-25

Lessons Learned

by Wayne Gaeddert

1. “Through His servant Moses, the Holy Spirit traces the beginnings of man, woman, marriage, the home, sin, sacrifice, cities, trade, agriculture, music, worship, languages, and the races and nations of the world. All this in the first eleven chapters.” Believers Bible Commentary p. 29

2. God directed Moses to write the book of Genesis so that the Israelite people He delivered from the bondage of slavery in Egypt would know that:

·        God was Creator rather than what the Egyptians believed about creation.

·        God had a special mission for the descendants of Abraham.

·        God was going to use Israel to bless he world with a savior.

3. Last week someone had a question about how dinosaurs fit into Genesis. Here are a couple of articles that address the issue.

4. Chapter 2 is an amplification of Chapter 1.

5. Chapter 2 refers to the ‘LORD God’ (covenant-making God) while Chapter 1 refers to God the creator.

6. The garden planted in Eden was both beautiful and bountiful.

7. Eden refers to abundant water. It can also mean a place of delight.

8. Eden was in the east (v8). Palestine is the point of reference for Bible directions, so Eden is east of Palestine. Believers Bible Commentary page 34

9. Application:

·        God has made abundant provision to sustain life on earth.

·        God intended for man to be active and work.

·        God intended for marriage as a lifelong commitment of physical, emotional, and spiritual intimacy.
