Genesis 1:1-5, 26-2:3
Lessons Learned

1. ”Through His servant Moses, the Holy Spirit traces the beginnings of man, woman, marriage, the home, sin, sacrifice, cities, trade, agriculture, music, worship, languages, and the races and nations of the world. All this in the first eleven chapters.” Believers Bible Commentary p. 29
2. Chapters 12-50 focus on the ancestors of Israel. God started with the man Abraham to build a nation through which the savior of humanity would be born.
3. Moses is the author of Genesis.
4. The title Genesis means “origin”.
5. Conservative scholars date the writing of Genesis around 1425 B.C.
6. Genesis Chapter 1 is written from God’s viewpoint.
7. Genesis 2:4-25 focuses on man.
8. God directed Moses to write the book of Genesis so that the Israelite people He delivered from the bondage of slavery in Egypt would know that:
· God was Creator rather than what the Egyptians believed about creation.
· God had a special mission for the descendants of Abraham.
· God was going to use Israel to bless he world with a savior.
9. The Genesis account of creation elevates mankind.

· We are special.
· We were God’s final creative activity.
· We were created in God’s image and likeness.
· We have a unique vocation from God.
· We have a distinct and unique relationship with God.
· We are like God in some ways. (emotion? spiritual? Nature?)
12. Creation Days:
· Day 1: Light. v3

· Day 3: Water gathered together so dry land appeared. V9

· Day 4: Lights in the heavens. V14
· Day 5: fish/birds/animals on the earth. V20, 24
· Day 6: Man in the image of God. V26
· Day 7: God Rested 2:2
13: Application:
· God created everything with a purpose.
· God created humanity to represent His interests in creation.
· God rested after His work was done.
