Genesis 6:8-22, 7:16-24
Lessons Learned
by Wayne Gaeddert
1. Jesus is our ark.
2. “If he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;” 2 Peter 2:5
3. Genesis 6:3 indicates God gave mankind 120 years to repent of their evil.
4. In Genesis 5:32 Noah is 500 years old. In Genesis 7:6 Noah was 600 years old when the flood came.
5. Sin had captured the hearts of mankind.
6. God provides a way to escape judgment, but mankind must submit to following God’s plan of salvation.
7. Everyone must appear before the judgment seat of Jesus.
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” 2 Corinthians 5:10
8. Noah is not given details on how God will destroy life, he is told, ‘I will destroy them and the earth’ (Genesis 6:13) NIV.
9. God closed the door on the ark (Genesis 7:16). There comes a time when it’s too late to believe what God has said.
10. Everyone would be watching Noah build the ark, it was a visible testimony of his belief in what God told him.
11. God did not bring judgment on the innocent. Judgment is for the unrepentant.
12. Application:
· No one can escape or hide from the judgment of God.
· God’s grace is extended to those who have placed their faith in Jesus.
· Noah demonstrated his faith by being obedient to what God said.
Gen. 6:22 & 7:5 “...did all God commanded.
Heb. 11:7 “By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.”
James 2:14 “What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?”
John 14:15,21 ““If you love me, you will keep my commandments...Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me.”
